A
Decade of Art
For the past ten years, the Reserve has
hosted a summer art show that has grown in popularity
as it has increased the kinds of art exhibited. Beginning
in 1997 as a photography exhibition, the annual artistic
showcase has featured oil, pastel, watercolor
and acrylic paintings, along with bronze sculptures, paper
collages, and an assortment of photographs in
as many styles and techniques as can be imagined.
Originally intended to present examples
of the Plateau’s esthetic qualities, the annual
exhibit captures moments on canvas, paper and
even metal that document a time, experience,
and memory of place. These frozen moments have many advantages.
Many people who visit the Plateau have
a special affinity for, or memories of, a certain area
or time of day on the Reserve. Purchasing art from the
exhibition allows visitors to take a piece of the Plateau
home, and reminds them daily of the place that likely
provides peace and contentment. Owning art created
by local residents also promotes a connection
with the community that is often missing with most purchases
for the home. And having an attractive and meaningful
conversation piece is always a welcomed addition to one’s
residence.
The exhibition also attempts to
put the images and art pieces into context with their
muse. Artists are inspired by the beauty of the
Plateau they seek to capture. But that
beauty
is synonymous with the biological systems that helped
create it. Interpretive displays have complimented the
art of the last decade of exhibits by helping visitors
understand some of the relationships between artistic
and biological beauty.
This year’s exhibit will as always draw from the
talent of the local community and will feature for the
first time members of the Temecula Art League.
Every year brings beautiful surprises and we all look
forward to another summer of exciting and beautiful art
inspired by the Plateau.
